What the Fastest-Growing CPG Brands Are Doing Differently

The fastest-growing CPG brands are rethinking their categories, knowing exactly who their consumer is, and building culture instead of chasing everyone.

The next generation of category leaders aren’t winning by copying what legacy brands have always done.

They're rethinking the category and the marketing strategy entirely.

Across CPG, some of the fastest-growing brands are taking familiar products and rebuilding them around what today's consumers actually want: healthier ingredients, better functionality, premium experiences, stronger design, and brands that reflect their lifestyles.

But the product is only part of the story.

The brands breaking through aren't trying to appeal to everyone. They know exactly who their consumer is, and they're building a culture around them.

Disrupt the Category, Not Just the Competition

Some of today's biggest CPG success stories started with an established category and asked a simple question: What does the next generation of this product look like?

Poppi took traditional soda and repositioned it around lower sugar, prebiotics, bold branding, and modern wellness. The brand grew rapidly enough that PepsiCo acquired it for $1.95 billion in 2025.

Celsius approached energy drinks through the lens of fitness and an active lifestyle, helping expand what the category could represent. The Celsius brand generated nearly $1.46 billion in revenue in 2025 as its distribution and awareness continued to grow.

These brands didn't need to invent entirely new consumer behaviors. They recognized existing categories with massive audiences and created products better aligned with how a specific segment wanted to live.

Know Exactly Who You're Building For

Legacy brands often have to speak to broad audiences. Challenger brands don't.

That's an advantage.

The fastest-growing brands understand their target consumer at a much deeper level: what they value, where they spend their time, who they trust, what they aspire to, and what makes them choose one product over another.

They aren't worried about winning. They're focused on becoming indispensable to their audience.

That focus influences everything from product development and packaging to creators, partnerships, media, retail strategy, and brand voice.

Build a Culture, Not Just Awareness

The strongest disruptors also understand that consumers aren't simply buying a functional benefit. They're buying into what the brand represents.

Poppi didn't build its following through product claims alone. Its bold visual identity, social presence, influencer partnerships, and culture-first marketing helped it develop a highly engaged community, particularly among Gen Z and millennial consumers.

Celsius similarly built its identity around fitness, energy, and an active lifestyle rather than simply selling another caffeinated beverage.

When the product becomes part of a consumer's lifestyle, the relationship goes beyond the transaction.

Community creates advocacy. Advocacy creates awareness. And awareness creates demand.

The New CPG Growth Playbook

The fastest-growing CPG brands aren't waiting for consumer behavior to change. They're building around where it's already going.

They're finding opportunities to make legacy categories healthier, more functional, more premium, or more culturally relevant. They're using data to deeply understand a specific audience. And they're investing in community and culture instead of trying to be everything to everyone.

The next category leaders won't win by appealing to the biggest possible audience. They'll win by knowing their consumer and building a product and marketing strategy that connects and inspires their target audience.
